Passport Photographs

Blog – Passport Photos, Cheaper, Quicker and Easier.

T

his subject is probably going to be a short one, but it’s a topic that comes up more often than not and it’s something I feel we all need educating on.

Do I take Passport Photographs? Yes I do.
Do you really need me to do them for you? No!

I’m more than happy to accommodate you at my studio or to bring my small set up to you, to capture the perfect passport image. That said, the government has changed how you apply for your passport photos and it’s quicker, easier, and a lot cheaper to do it yourself.

Below is a great guide on how you can take one using your camera phone and a white wall.

Y

our photo must be clear and in focus, in colour and unaltered by computer software. It should not contain any other objects or people, be taken against a plain neutral background and not have ‘red eye’. You must be facing forwards and looking straight at the camera with a plain expression and your mouth closed. Make sure your eyes are open and visible and that no hair is in front of them.

No head covering (unless it’s for religious or medical reasons) and nothing covering your face. Glasses are fine but your eyes must be visible without any glare or reflection. Importantly make sure you don’t have any shadows on your face or behind you.

P

hotos for babies and children must have them on their own, no toys or dummies are allowed. If the child is under 6 then they do not have to be looking directly at the camera or have a plain expression. Children under one do not have to have their eyes open and can have their head supported with your hand, but your hand must not be visible in the photo. Children under one should lie on a plain neutral sheet, with the photo taken from above.

The best thing about taking it yourself on your phone, is that you can attach it to your online application and send it off straight away. No need to waste extra days attaching it to a form which needs signing in triplicate.

Can I take your passport photo for you? Yes
Should you take it yourself? Yes!

If you need advice then I am always happy to help – feel free to call or message me for guidance. Also note these guidelines are for a British passport, and other regions may vary. – UK Gov Website
