JOB TYPE: Product photography
JOB DETAILS: Capture images at night of a recently updated residential garden.
I have a passion for design and a fascination with the technical side of things. So, when I visited a job for Monarch Lawn and Landscape, I was eager to learn more about landscaping—and I wasn’t disappointed. Monarch, led by Charley, has been transforming landscapes for over 20 years. They specialize in high-end projects that bring clients’ landscaping dreams to life. Charley’s expertise shines in every space, making them both beautiful and functional. His work is about more than aesthetics; it’s about creating spaces meant to be lived in and admired.
Charley’s brief for this project was clear: meet him at a client’s property to capture images of a recent garden transformation. However, he added an exciting twist—he needed the shots taken at night to highlight the lighting features, a crucial part of the design.
This challenge excited me because lighting can be tricky to capture, but I knew it would elevate the project visually. When I arrived, I immediately noticed Charley’s running stream, with lighting that emphasized its beauty. Capturing this required both technical skill and a keen eye for detail.
The lighting design had been meticulously planned, with every angle and placement carefully thought out to enhance the space. The challenge was to illuminate the running stream while keeping the surrounding garden properly lit. The lighting needed to create the perfect ambiance without overwhelming the natural beauty of the garden. We had a small window of light—just from sunset to darkness—to capture the ideal shots. Every image required careful planning, so timing and precision were crucial.
Looking at the results, I think you’ll agree that we captured the stunning work Monarch Lawn and Landscape did. The images highlight the design’s technical complexity and beauty. The lighting brought the space to life and added a magical quality that wouldn’t have been possible during the day.
Charley’s posts featuring these photos led to significant new work for Monarch, confirming the shots had the desired impact. This success proved how well the lighting was integrated into the design—and how crucial it was to capture it at the perfect moment.
The final client gallery included 31 carefully selected images. Each one captured the essence of the garden transformation and the intricate lighting design. Every shot showcased the beauty of the space, ensuring the lighting worked in harmony with the overall aesthetic. These photos didn’t just document the space—they told the story of how every detail came together to create something remarkable.
